Belmont Warrant Committee Closes Year With Debrief on Report Workload, Departing Members

BELMONT — June 17, 2026 — Belmont Warrant Committee closes its fiscal year with a wide-ranging debrief, six minutes approvals, and farewells to four departing members. Chair Paul Richter, leading what he described as an unusually demanding year that included three special town meetings between annual town meetings, convened the June 17 session at the Homer Municipal Building with all members present. The committee's primary discussion examined the annual warrant report production process, with Richter acknowledging he had concentrated too much editorial work on himself — "I just went in and get stuff rather than go, make sure Marie, can you make sure this gets done" — and several members proposing that subcommittee chairs and members pare their own sections to defined bullet-point limits before material reaches the chair. The committee also approved six sets of meeting minutes from April 15 through May 27, with various abstentions and corrections, including a misspelled name and a missing vote record in the May 13 set. Town CFO Jeff Lubin reported that the town assessor has resigned and that Roy Epstein has been appointed to the Board of Assessors. At the close, Richter recognized Ann Hogan (approximately 15 years of service), Jack Weiss (nine years), Lynn Reid (eight years), and Melissa Marley (one term) as departing members.
